Imperial Okabe Gyokuro – Hand-Picked First-Flush Shizuoka Gyokuro

Our Imperial Okabe Gyokuro is a high-quality, first-flush, hand-picked Japanese green tea grown in the Okabe region of Shizuoka, Japan — one of the country's most celebrated gyokuro-producing areas. Because of its rarity and exceptional quality, this imperial gyokuro is traditionally treated as a luxury for special occasions.

Gyokuro is a rare Japanese green tea that's shaded for at least two weeks before harvest. This naturally boosts chlorophyll and amino acids in the leaf, producing a unique, deep and sweet cup with rich umami. Only hand-picked leaves of the finest quality are used to create this masterpiece — well balanced, aromatic and wonderfully smooth.

Tasting Notes

  • Dry leaf: deep green, fine needles
  • Liquor: rich, vivid jade
  • Aroma: sweet, fresh and aromatic
  • Flavor: deep sweetness with rich, savory umami
  • Body: smooth and full-bodied

Why You'll Love It

Imperial Okabe Gyokuro is a luxurious, balanced gyokuro that showcases the best of Shizuoka's tea craftsmanship. Its full body and silky umami make every sip feel special, and its deep sweetness lingers long after each cup.

  • From the Okabe region of Shizuoka
  • First-flush and hand-picked
  • Shade-grown for deep umami
  • A rare special-occasion tea

How to Enjoy

Brew it with cooler water in a small teapot to bring out its sweetness and umami, and serve it in small cups to savor slowly. Re-steep the leaves for several infusions. It pairs beautifully with Japanese sweets and makes an extraordinary gift.

Rare, refined and exquisitely smooth, Imperial Okabe Gyokuro is a true masterpiece of Japanese tea.

One of my favorite Gyokuro's. I've had more expensive ones that I liked less. Rich and light at the same time .-d-

I love this tea, but I wonder why they advise to brew it à 70˚C, it is much too high and it kills its fine taste. I brew it a first time at 55˚C and I stir it somewhat for maximum flavour and a bright green colour. I brew it a second time at 60˚C and stir it again to release an extra cup of this precious beverage. Kampaï !

This is the third Gyokuro I taste from Tealyra and I can say know that Gyokuro is my favourite green tea. I am fond of them.

I have virtually tried over 8 types of Gyokuro tea. This one is among the most expensive and claimed to be organic. Both taste and color are among the least preferred: becoming tasteless and skewed green color. The types from Yame and Uji are much better.
