White Dragon Pearl – Hand-Rolled Fujian White Tea Pearls

The extraordinary White Dragon Pearl is a delicate, hand-rolled white tea. Each pearl is individually handcrafted into a medium-sized sphere that gently unfurls as it steeps. Fine white tea from China's coastal Fujian Province is renowned for its exceptional quality, thanks to high-elevation tea gardens shrouded in cool mist and clean mountain air — conditions that produce some of the world's finest white teas.

The tea is picked at a ratio of just two leaves to every bud, following strict quality and tasting standards introduced during the Ming Dynasty. Processing is kept to a minimum: the freshly plucked leaves and buds are withered, hand-rolled and dried almost immediately after picking, preserving their delicate, natural character.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: hand-rolled pearls that gently unfurl
  • Aroma: delicate and flowery
  • Flavor: mild, fine and naturally sweet
  • Finish: a gentle fruit-blossom sweetness

Why You'll Love It

White Dragon Pearl has an even more delicate taste than Silver Needle or White Peony, making it a beautiful choice for quiet, mindful moments. White tea is one of the most gently processed teas and a natural source of antioxidants, with only a gentle amount of caffeine.

  • Fine Fujian white tea
  • Individually hand-rolled pearls
  • Minimally processed to preserve delicacy
  • Subtle, flowery and sweet

How to Enjoy

Brew the pearls in a clear glass teapot or gaiwan to watch them unfurl, and enjoy several gentle infusions. Savor it plain, and pair it with light pastries, fresh fruit or simply a quiet moment. It also makes an elegant gift.

Rare, delicate and beautifully crafted, White Dragon Pearl is white tea at its most refined.

I have experimented with unrolling the White Dragon Pearl right after an initial steeping for 3 minutes, as the ball is now somewhat softened and thus easier to unroll.

With each successive steep, the ball opens up.

However, if the goal is to steep to a degree that the tea leaves actually open more fully to allow more thorough flavor extraction by increasing the surface area of the leaves, advance opening of the ball appears to be a outstanding solution to advancing the extraction of the flavor.

It is fun to experiment. You may wish to know this process and try it for yourself.

I'm fairly new to white tea (tried a few over the years, but had always been disappointed by their lack of taste). This is something else, a strong and lasting taste, somewhere between oolong and pu-erh. I still prefer either of these, but this is a nice variation - notably in cold brew, as suggested by Nikau Ferguson-Spence (thanks) ... after which it's still good for a long time in hot brew

The size of one pearl is enough for at least 10 steeps. I recommend a water temp of 180 - 183 to provoke the opening of leaves. Rinse for a good half minute as the flavor will be very mild in your first 2 steeps. After about the 5 pour, the cha qi of your cup will fill your head space with true enjoyment. For a low-cost leaf, this is a good experience for longer lasting session, or you can save the pearl for a second session later in the day/evening. Very much comparable to their Old Tree Yue Guan Bai Cha. Very filling for the stomach. No need for food to accompany this leaf. I will keep stocking with this until they run out.

Brewed gongfu style, a mild and surprisingly sweet white tea with definite honey overtones which become milder and more fruit blossom-like after around the fourth infusion. A high quality white tea and a must try for anyone who likes honey flavours.
