Description

Hong Yu White Tea – Luxury Large-Leaf Red Jade Taiwanese White Tea

Our large-leaf Hong Yu White Tea is a Taiwanese craft tea made from the Hong Yu cultivar, whose name translates as "Red Jade" or "Ruby." Best known for producing Taiwan's famous Ruby black tea, this cultivar is crafted here into a rare and luxurious white tea.

It's processed with minimal handling — from hand-picking, which allows the large, delicate leaves to remain intact, to drying. The leaves are handled as little as possible to ensure the freshest taste. White tea has the least oxidation of all teas, and this fine tea is 0% oxidized, allowing for a delicate, fresh taste.

Tasting Notes

  • Dry leaf: large, whole, delicate leaves
  • Liquor: clear and translucent
  • Aroma: light and vegetal

A very nice white tea. An aftertaste that reminds me of a delicate oolong.... think I'll stash it away for special occasions.

Impressively delicate, pleasant, sweet flavour. Not my everyday tea since it is sweet but a nice treat from time to time.

This is really an exceptional tea. I've had a number of white needle teas, and the intial brew reminded me of a white tea I bought in Hong Kong (can't remember name now). But what is really unique is how many subsequent brewing are possible--yes, the flavor changes and becomes more subdued, but it's still a pleasant drink. (I bought it as loose tea, so it's also interesting to look at the tea leaves as they expand.)
