Description

Shizuoka Tsuyu Sencha is a premium quality first harvest sencha that comes from Shizuoka, Japan. This is one of the finest naturally grown sencha teas that we have ever had the pleasure of offering at Tealyra! Shizuoka Tsuyu Sencha is very fragrant deep-steamed sencha that is both mellow yet rich and complex tasting. The brilliant, dark green, needle like leaves of this incredible specialty deliver a fragrant aroma, translucent cup and a flavor profile that is surprisingly full bodied yet light, and umami sweet on the finish.

Profound, delicate, reviving. Batches can vary, but consistently washes me away in a verdant 'monsoon' of grassy splendor. When brewed richly, provides a mouthfeel that you can almost chew. When brewed lightly, entrances with subtle whispers. Restores hope, optimism, imagination. Truly a gem in the world of sencha - don't forget to drink it if you get mesmerized by its outstanding emerald hue. Not the most flavorful second steep, but still my all-time favorite green tea.

Like the gyokuro I purchased at the same time I can't get over how fresh, verdant and zingy tealyra's Japanese greens are, they make most I've tried before seem lifeless and stale. All the health claims made for green tea - they taste plausible. This is a particularly lovely rounded and 3 dimensional sencha.

This tea is exquisite and hands down superior to many a gyokuro. I get 3 cups out of my leaves, by first doing a 1½ - 2 minute brew, then a 4 minute steep for the second cup, and for the third cup I leave it for 8 minutes or so, so it's good value as well.
