First Harvest Wild Red Buds – Rare Yunnan Black Tea from Ancient Wild Trees

First Harvest Wild Red Buds is a rare and captivating black tea that embodies the untamed beauty and deep-rooted tea heritage of Yunnan's ancient forests. It's harvested from wild, 100-year-old tea trees growing at elevations over 1, 800 meters in the remote borderlands of southwestern China near Myanmar, and it offers an unforgettable tasting experience rich with complexity, nuance and authenticity.

Each spring, as the mist rises through the high mountain forests, skilled tea foragers climb three-meter ladders to hand-pick only the very first tender buds from these old-growth wild trees. This labor-intensive process yields only a tiny amount of tea, making it an incredibly scarce and treasured micro-lot.

Tasting Notes

  • Dry leaf: deeply floral and honeyed aroma
  • Liquor: golden amber
  • Body: silky smooth, vibrant yet delicate
  • Flavor: orchid blossom, warm raw honey and dried fruit
  • Finish: a gentle hint of spice and a clean, lingering finish

I have an beginner-to-intermediate level of experience with loose leaf tea but this is one of the nicest black teas I have ever had. If you are looking for peppery, "black powder" tea... move along. This tea is robust but gentle and elegant. There is a distinct peach note, yes, but it is not flavored tea. I tend to use extra leaves for more powerful flavor but this stuff holds up to several steepings so despite being a little more expensive this is easily worthwhile.

Awesome tea - black tea that is as fragrant as a top oolong, unusual, rich but not heavy. Sensitive to different brewing times, proportions and water volumes. Also looks beautiful. I know I will repurchase

Holy Peaches! Seriously, think Teavana Peach Bellini but more PURE tasting. Very light liquor that resembles a white wine. No doubt the color of the dry leaf is very pleasant and fun to admire. My water was set to 204F and I would say do quick steeps for strong white peach notes, longer infusions for richer pineapple and citrus peel notes. No maltiness with this one, just a nice golden white wine. As I am typing this I am on my 8th infusion. So be patient with the leaves, they seem to have quite a bit to offer. Very uplifting sensation. You will want to share immediately with friends! NOTE: after the 5th infusion I recommend higher water pouring to agitate the leaves for continued infusions.
